I've been tagged.  Finally!  Melissa. you make me feel so loved. :o)

here are 8 things about me...

1.  I love the morning.  If I could get up before the sun (& before my family), enjoy a cup of coffee and some time to myself EVERYDAY, I would be a much happier person and a better mother.

2. The color orange makes me happy.  So do a lot of other colors in combo with other colors, but ORANGE - that's the one color that solo can lift my mood.

3. Raw fish is my favorite food.  I could eat Sashimi every day.  In fact, I like beef nearly raw too.  And I prefer chicken cold.  Actually, I prefer most foods cold... except soup.  I definitely enjoy my soup hot.

4. I tend to bite off more than I can chew in life.  I have great intentions of accomplishing heaps and heaps of fantastic things for myself, my family, my house, my business, my friends and my community... but the reality is that I can barely keep it together and I constantly feel overwhelmed.

5. I went to school and got a degree in photography, and I had NO intention whatsoever to pursue a career in the field.  However, now that I have chosen to follow this path I feel like I have the best job in the world for me and I can't get enough of it.

6. I cannot stand having a ball kicked or thrown at me.  This was something I wrote in my match.com profile, and my husband reminds me of it often.  I've felt this way my entire life, but when I was in 6th grade playing volleyball I got hit in the chest with the ball and had the wind knocked out of me.  I was painfully embarrassed, and that sealed the ball game deal for me.  Not to mention that I'm not terribly coordinated.

7. As mentioned above, I met my husband through an internet personal ad.  I still think its a tiny bit embarrassing, but I'd recommend it to anyone!  The WORLD WIDE WEB makes the world so connected for us, and you never know waht fate will throw in your path when you go looking.  My husband is so wonderful and perfect for me.

8. I always thought that becoming a mother would make me feel complete.  I also thought that I woudl be the kind of mom who would be infinitely patient, would play all day with my kids, and would have fun creative activities to do with them constantly.  None of these things became true when I had my kids, and I carry terribly guilt about it.  I do love them so tremendously much though!!!

OK!  Now I get to do the tagging:

Melissa, its your turn, babe

Tonya, you too if you haven't been hit a dozen times already

Suzi, you too.  Cuz I love you.

Kim, I'm aching to know you better, so TAG!

my guy

It was 6 years ago today that we met.  The day that we all woke up to the crazy news that airplanes had crashed into the world trade center towers.  The day that changed our country and the rest of the world so dramatically.  It was also the day that I met the LOVE of my life.  9.11.01 --- it has so many meanings to me.
It was 3 days short of 2 months after my Mom had died.
Hmmm, I had started to write all of the details of the day and our meeting, but I'll spare you.  (if you ever want to hear a great love story, ask me and I'll be happy to share! :o))  Suffice it to say, while sitting across from this bearded man with a sparkle in his eyes bright and twinkly as fireworks, all I could do was giggle with giddiness.  I knew I had met a man that would change my life forever.  It really was love at first sight.
8 months later to the day we were married.
And here we are today, with our 2 amazing little creations.  Life has handed us immense challenges and intense blessings.  We are truly, truly blessed to have found eachother.
I love you, sweetie.  Thanks for all of it.

This little girl stole my heart. She was born 3 weeks early to a very dear old friend of mine, and she is one special cookie, let me tell you.  She is 3 weeks old here - right on her "due date". L, I should have the photos done today for you to see in a gallery.

superhero inspirations

There is a woman named Andrea Sher, who's blog has been a major source of inspiratipon to me in starting my business and living well.  I was first introduced to her through SARK's books back in the day when I had more time to read. ;o)  I instantly fell in love with her, her jewelry design, her photos, and the way she honestly shared her art, life, and struggles & triumphs with those of us lucky enough to find her on the internet.  She recently mentioned me and my new website here...  Thank YOU, Andrea!!!  Check her out... I'm sure you'll think she's fabulous too.

testimonials

  • Working with Jen was a total pleasure. She was relaxed, fun, and very flexible. I started the session feeling self-pressure to have the children dressed just right, the setting perfect, and everyone on their best behavior. Of course, the best laid plans were not to be - yet, Jen still captured the BEST pictures of my family I have ever seen. I highly recommend Jen Downer! ---Holly B
  • Jen was great!! We spent an enjoyable afternoon with her, and it never felt like a photo shoot. We were all at ease and she captured us as we are. Our photos are beautiful and truly portray our family. ---Becky
  • Jen and I went to art school together. I was in awe: her images had warmth, happiness and playfulness. Also a bit of nostalgia...the good kind, when memories are brought back with a little smile. She took a great detour after graduation by falling in love and starting a family. She already saw the good things about people, but now it's enhanced by having her own little people to nurture. She's the perfect person to document the special moments of every day life. ---Suzi
