contraction experience

some of you may remember from an earlier post that my girl's latest career aspiration is to become a karate practicing scientist babysitter.  (she has an enormous crush on adam and jamie of mythbusters fame!)

Hoot5_orchidberry

so around our house, there are constant almost-5 year old science experiments happening.  i've got to say that its pretty darn cute!  and the cutest part of it all is that experiments are "EXPERIENCE"  and contraptions are "CONTRACTIONS".  "Mommy, do you like my drinking CONTRACTION?" (several crazy straws taped together) "Mommy, I need this for my recycling EXPERIENCE!" (anything and everything).

and just now, "MOOOM, i'm going to make the world special!  i NEEEED to!!!!"  Oh Zoe, if you only know how special you already make the world.  especially MY world!

Oh the precociousness of it all makes me ache with deep love.

and meanwhile, my sweet boy gives everyone big open wide mouth tongue kisses these days.  what could be better???

Dirteater

seeee? its all about the tongue.

PS --- I got a wonderful phone call from my oldest and dearest friend, Kris, from Boston this afternoon announcing that she is ENGAGED!!!!!!  I'm ticked and so excited for her.  CONGRATULATIONS, KRISSY & DENNIS!!!!  I love you so much!

and this one's for you, Auntie Krissy:

give the girl a tiny bit of sunshine and she takes a mile!

lagging but excited

to all of the clients that are waiting ever so patiently to see your photos...
i'm getting there!  i promise!  my most sincere apologies that things are taking a bit longer than i hoped.  i recently switched over to MAC from pc, and i am still trying to get used to this little beauty.  i love it, but i am not the swiftest at picking up new technology that is unfamiliar to me.  i also started using new software and am working on a new more efficient workflow.  its all still very NEW and different.  i am working hard to deliver some beautiful art to each of you ASAP!

i have a very busy, but exciting week ahead of me!
on thursday i am going to a dinner & seminar with some of the wonderful local photogs: shari, emily, maricar, amy, hollie, deanna, & Jenny!  This will be my first time meeting almost all of them in person.  fun!

friday night i have the distinct pleasure of having dinner with this lovely and extremely talented lady! ali i am really looking forward to meeting you.

and finally, here's a little sneak preview for the wonderful clients i met this past weekend.  Hope you love them Ellie!  (Ellie is in the midst of starting a fabulous new business called Mommy Match - helping Portland Metro area families to meet much needed, coveted and great babysitters!!!!  i don't know ANYONE who doesn't need help in that area!)

the darndest things

trickster, originally uploaded by she saw things.

the other day while out on a mini "mommy & zoe date" she says to me...
"I want to be scientist babysitter when I grow up. During the day I will go do my scientist stuff. Then I will go to karate lessons. Then I will babysit in the night!"

I want to be in her brain... life would be soooooo good!

overwhelmed

Samloveskisses_story_rounded
(i LOOOVE these images of Sam!  he's a tough one to photograph because is in constant motion.  he sat down for a few minutes and let get these gems, and i was in HEAVEN!)

i must admit that i tend to feel overwhelmed... often.  there are just so many things i want to do!  and do well!  : : : s i g h : : :  alas there are only so many minutes in the day, and i just try my hardest to make the most of them.

i'm working on proofing some fantastic recent sessions and designing a few books for clients and a studio sample for me.  its a lot of fun!  there will lots to see from them soon.

for now i will give you a look at the photo fun i've had with MY kiddos this past week...

  • Working with Jen was a total pleasure. She was relaxed, fun, and very flexible. I started the session feeling self-pressure to have the children dressed just right, the setting perfect, and everyone on their best behavior. Of course, the best laid plans were not to be - yet, Jen still captured the BEST pictures of my family I have ever seen. I highly recommend Jen Downer! ---Holly B
  • Jen was great!! We spent an enjoyable afternoon with her, and it never felt like a photo shoot. We were all at ease and she captured us as we are. Our photos are beautiful and truly portray our family. ---Becky
  • Jen and I went to art school together. I was in awe: her images had warmth, happiness and playfulness. Also a bit of nostalgia...the good kind, when memories are brought back with a little smile. She took a great detour after graduation by falling in love and starting a family. She already saw the good things about people, but now it's enhanced by having her own little people to nurture. She's the perfect person to document the special moments of every day life. ---Suzi
